Explore the Practice

We begin with safety.

Not because nothing hard will come up — it will. But we need somewhere to return to first: a body we can locate, a present moment we can find. Everything else builds from there.

The whole practice comes down to one shift: from story back to state.

The Shift Method

When something activates us — a sensation, an emotion, a thought — attention narrows and the familiar story takes over. The goal isn't to stop that from happening. It's to build our capacity to stay present inside it.

That happens in three movements:

Awareness — noticing the shift while it's happening, without analyzing or explaining it. The moment we can observe our experience, we're no longer completely inside it.

Capacity — staying with what's here instead of immediately reacting, fixing, or escaping. Over time, we become able to experience a state without becoming the state.

Choice — from that space, we can see the story without automatically believing it, and respond from what's actually here now, not from the old pattern.

Awareness → Capacity → Choice. Not perfectly, and not all at once — through practice, again and again.

The Path

Each class builds one part of the method.

Establishing Safety in Our Bodies

This is where we learn to feel safe in our bodies. For many of us — especially with trauma — that's not easy. We go slow. A gentle introduction to actually being in your body, and discovering, little by little, that it's safe to be there.

I am here. I am home. I am safe. This is now.

Expanding Awareness

This is where we start to notice the difference between our state — our awareness — and our story: the thoughts and patterns that pull us in. We practice shifting safely between the two, and start building the muscle of choice.

I can notice without becoming.

Building Capacity

This is where we build capacity — staying with harder feelings for longer, not by toughing it out, but by shifting from story back to state. The more safety we build inside ourselves, the more we can let stay.

More can be here. And so can I.

Different classes. One practice.

You don't have to master one before starting another. Each builds a different capacity. Together, they help you stay conscious inside your life — especially when something is pulling you away.

By learning to shift from story to state — and back again — we stop being ruled by what happened to us, and start choosing who we are, moment to moment.
